It was, nearly 8 months  ago, announced that a new DAM (digital assets management) without telerik components will be made available in DNN Platform (J. Brinkman in a (youtube) video). But now I cannot see when this will be made available (a reactjs DAM). Or is this new module available for testing?

I believe this will be available in the DNN 9.2 release, currently scheduled for Oct/Nov. You have a few months. The good thing is that this would mark the first release where telerik is completely unnecessary for a clean DNN instance.
