Currently using 7.4.2

Admin>Site Setting>User Account

Requires Unique Email: False

Hashed

False

I need to be able to let users (non-host) recover PWs.

I register each user, so I can control unique email (company emails are already handled that way)

If I change all three settings (above)  to True, Plain and True, will this work?

I'm hosted at Managed and a couple nights ago I changed just the Retrieval setting and it more or less killed the site.

Its fixed back to above. I tried to research this question here, which leads me to this question, since I didn't find a clear specific answer.

We've found the only consistent way to ensure password retrieval works is to make email unique in the web.config. (setting requiresUniqueEmail="true" on the AspNetSqlMembershipProvider key). The caveat here is you need to ensure your current user base has unique emails.  Run this SQL in Host/SQL: (select Email, count(*) from Users group by Email having count(*) > 1) you'll need to de-dupe emails for password retrieval to work for these users.

Rich,

Thanks for the reply. I'll get into this tomorrow. Any thoughts on Hashed, Encrypted or Plain for the password config, with respect to the retrieval issue?

That should not affect retrieval.
