How do you remove the "user" from the Vanity URL Prefix? You can change it but if you delete it, it always reverts to user.
My users always showed before as domain.com/vanityurl (using ifinity URL master). I don't want to change that.
I'm using the new AUM but can't remove the
Vanity URL Prefix. How can I change this? Can I edit the db? which table?
I could write a IIS rewrite rule to remove the 'user' part but there must be a simpler way! Please help.

Hi John,

I don't know of a way to remove it, but that was added (I think) because of a concern that users could use vanity URLs to fake pages on your site and create security problems. As an example, if dnnsoftware.com did that, then I could make my vanity URL be "Free-Modules" and now have the URL dnnsoftware.com/Free-Modules. Then, I could use my biography field to create content that is sufficiently confusing for a user.

By having the vanity prefix, you help mitigate that problem, and you help prevent conflicts between user-generated URLs and your actual site content.

I don't know if that helps at all.

Hi Mike,
I understand the concept, I am not fond of it being forced on me. One size does not fit all, what may work for a small site, may not work for DNN.
If I were DNN, and your vanity URL was dnnsoftware.com/user/Free-Modules, I would delete your account, It is confusing, with or without the users directory. But what if "Free Modules" is your registered company name?
Also, if you use hyperlinked breadcrumbs, you now have a directory that doesn't exist. If users try to go to domainname.com/users, they will get a 404 error. Now you need to 'fix' that. Even without breadcrumbs, will users backup in the browser bar to domainname.com/users expecting to find all your users? Another 404 error.

Does anyone know how to set this to domain.com/vanity-url rather than domain.com/users/vanity-url?
I'm getting 1-200 404 errors per day. Previously, I used the Ifinity vanity url, which was domain.com/vanity-url

Or it there a way to redirect in DNN or IIS to remove the 'users' from the url?
