Hello.

On our 'Contact Us' page, we have a Google map with many pins for our locations. The page is loading very slowly and it's because the API key needs to be updated.

I was able to generate the key ... but now I don't know where to go once I login to our website to make the update. I am not a web developer, so perhaps this is even out of my scope, but I'd like to look into it to see if I can do it.

Any guidance you could provide would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,
welcome to the maps madness!
Ok, as I see it there are 2 options:
1. You are using a third party module with which you display the map and locations.
2. The maps script is added on page and the display is through a simple html module.

If this is a case 1, find out which vendor created the module and ask for guidance.
If this is a case 2, the API key is probably in the script implemented on the page (either added in the header of the module, or in the page settings, or even added in the skin, there are many ways to add a script). But perhaps the script needs alterations for the new API key to work, so I would suggest you ask a developer to look into it.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you for your reply.

This is part of the html script I found in the footer of the maps module.

<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/...>

I'm thinking I just need to insert the new API Key I generated somewhere into this. I tried it yesterday but it did nothing so I have obviously not put it in the right spot.

Do you think I'm on the right track at all? If not, I will admit defeat and see if I can find a web developer who can assist. :)

It did not let me post the whole script so I'm trying again, with spaces so it doesn't read it as a link.

<script src="http s://m aps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp"></script>

Hello again,
so its the second case? This script is loaded externally. So I see two options again:
1. Try writing it this way (without the spaces!)
<script type="text/javascript" src="https: // maps . googleapis . com / maps / api / js ? key = PUT YOUR KEY HERE "></script>
If this doesn't work,
2. There might be another script on the page which generates the locations (you said you have many locations on the map). So there should be the script you posted plus another one with the locations. The API key perhaps is mentioned there too but I'm not sure depends on how the map was created in the first place.
There are many tactics to generate a google map so it is difficult to know what has been done in each case.
Can you provide a link the said map?
