  • Page management is a chore, and a big step backward
  • HTML/Text editing is tedious
  • Persistent "Edit mode" does not exist across the site.  Major slow-down
  • Bugs will destroy your content - make backups regularly because you'll need them - be warned!
  • Persona Bar is weird, unintuitive, and doesn't persist over pages like you would think it should.

Overall, if you plan on doing any serious web development in v9, prepare to slow down and do thing in a tedious fashion. On-spec, DNN 9 is awesome, but in reality, it doesn't deliver.

...and what's up with these forums!? Why is the layout so weird when you post a new topic?

Completely agree. My team and I have tried using DNN9 as well. the lack of "layout mode" is irritating as well. If you want to have some "backup panes" in your ascx file, then you have to deal with scrolling down past all of them on the page constantly while in edit mode, rather than them collapsing when not in use.

Agree,

I'm not one to whinge & b!tch but really disappointed in this. I have a start up just start up just about to go live & thought I might as well upgrade now before go live & what a mistake it turned out to be. Seems to me there is some fundamental basic components that don't even work. Its not like its in beta release.

After over 10 years of using DNN, I am now considering a different framework altogether.

Have to agree here, we just upgraded to latest DNN9 version and it seems to be a mess, with permissions being different for modules on the page compared to the page itself, even though the "Inherit permissions from page" is checked. We are considering if we should downgrade to DNN8 again, even though that will mean a lot of unnecessary work. So unless it is a test environment or similar, you should probably stay away from DNN9.

Personally I'm sticking with DNN 8.0.4 until a hear at least one good word about DNN9. If simple, standard things become complicated, it's not worth it.
