I got a site working on a test platform. Created a production alias, copied the database and the files and changed the connection string in the web.config. Users can login but don't have access to anything that requires permission other than anonymous access. manually entering a restricted page uri gives me a user access error. Host and admin accounts don't work.

Any ideas?

You are sure they are actually logged in too? Anything special like active directory or anything?

I reloaded the database and deleted unauthorized users and the host account started working. The user accounts were gone too but there weren't many yet so we recreated them. It's all working, finally.

the issue is hard to identify without access to the site, but one issue might be the machinekey (which is used for hashing/encrypting user passwords) has been altered
