Can/should I upgrade directly from 6.2.4 to 8.latest or are there intermediary upgrades I should do first?

Is the latest version of 8.x stable/bug free or should I stay with 7.x?

John,

about the upgrade path: read here: http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/sugge... - the last step would be to upgrade from 7.3.2 to the current 8.0.x version.

DNN 8 is stable enough, but there were some breaking changes, that means you should test everything and look for newer versions of your modules, skins and other extensions that you use on your site. It also requires .Net framework 4.5.1+ installed - see http://www.dnnsoftware.com/docs/desig...

Happy DNNing!
Michael

I upgraded from 6.2 to 7.32 as suggested:

1. Compiler Error Message: BC30456: 'DeleteSearchItems' is not a member of 'DotNetNuke.Data.DataProvider'.
remove content of app_code/XML folder and re-install latest version of XML module after the platform upgrade
Problem: the checkbox for 'accept license' is not there, so I can't install XML Copying files from previous install, crashed install and have to start over copying site & db.
None of the list boxes show any content (empty), so I can't change skins to try another skin.

2. Can I remove dupe key? And rerun in sql window? Run on website or on sql server?
00:00:07.176 - Executing Script:07.00.04.SqlDataProvider Error! (see 07.00.04.log.resources for more information)
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): The CREATE UNIQUE INDEX statement terminated because a duplicate key was found for the object name 'dbo.oa_ContentTypes' and the index name 'IX_oa_ContentTypes_ContentType'. The duplicate key value is (DNNArticle_Article).
The statement has been terminated.

3. Is there a friendly look for ControlBar? It looks like a funeral home at night. Dark blue writing on a black background.

4. 0:00:31.309 - Application Upgrades : 07.02.00 Error! What does this mean and how do I fix it?

1. did you remove content of app_code/XML folder? this should stop the eroor message, otherwise you'd need to compare your web.config with web.config of a new install (DNN 7.3.2)
2. if you are having access to the database, you should be able to find the duplicate item in ContentTypes table and delete it.
3. usually ControlBar is using white foreground color - please check with default skin applied to a page.
4. please check content of file /providers/dataproviders/sqldataprovider/07.02.00.log.resources using a text editor.

1. remove content xml folder did fix error. However, I can't reinstall XML ... don't I need this? Aren't most of the resource files, dnn menu, etc. xml or xslt files. Or am I mis-understanding what XML module does?
2. OK
3. As I mentioned, I can't change skin, as none of the drop down or check boxes work. Going to look at database, see if I can change skin there. If I clickon dropdown for skin, it expands but there is no content. Dropdowns everywhere are blank (no content)
4. Thank you for pointing out where the 'error' file is. Having a cryptic message like 'Application Upgrades : 07.02.00 Error' does not help people like me, who just want to use and upgrade DNN. Like my car, I just want to drive it, don't want to know about pistons or spark plugs.
