There are a lot of things that cause a site to be slow... and most don't directly relate to DNN.

The biggest slowdown on the site you've sent over is the server response time - I'm showing that as between 4 and 5 seconds. That's most likely a problem with your host or your actual server. That's the thing to work on first.

Beyond that, it doesn't look like you have any of the normal optimization stuff turned on. In your host settings, move to heavy caching, and minify your js/css files. It can also help to do things like turning off "auto-add alias".

you should use advancedURLs, see
Besides, you should configure "heavy" caching in Host Settings and enable Caching in Module Settings for all static modules.

What hardware is it running on, and is that hardware also running other heavy use work?

DNN is a serious application - in particular it needs plenty of memory to run effectively.
