I have the same problem. I just went to restore my local copy and got the db connection error discussed above.

DNN Error

Connection To The Database Failed

I have deleted and recreated my user with no luck. I even tried using the SA credentials and am still not able to connect the site to the database.

Anything else I should be trying?

Thanks.

Since I posted this, I created a new application, used the same connection string from the web.config of my dnn site in this new application and am able to connect and output data from a table in the same database. I don't think it is the user. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

also, I created a stand alone page on the dnn site with only this in the page_load

try
{
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SiteSqlServer"].ConnectionString);
}

catch (Exception ex)
{
Response.Write(ex);
Response.End();
}
and I still get the generic

DNN Error

Connection To The Database Failed

No idea where to go with this. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you did the following:
1. backup full db on production server
2. copy db.bak file to development server
3. restore with option overwrite on dev-database
***this next step is important***
4 run sql script to resync db-user with login user on database (GUIDs will not match)

USE [db-name]
GO
EXEC sp_change_users_login 'update_one', '[login-name]', '[db-user]'
GO

Hope this helps...
