Hi,

I've been researching this subject on and off for some 6 months now but unable to find anything concrete which explains how I can implement a solution...

My Intranet site sits on a SQL Server database which hosts the user data and module data, however, I need to dynamically query upgrade/installation support calls contained in a MySQL database that our call logging system (Supportworks) uses. I will then display the data using the SGSV v5.10 module from Tressleworks (http://www.tressleworks.ca)

Can anyone explain how to connect to a MySQL database when I am already using a SQL Server database on the Intranet? I'm really puzzled on how to do this, so as much advice on this is hugely appreciated!

FYI - I don't have direct administrator access to the server, so I need to do as much as possible from the Intranet server.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out with this.

Or maybe a better solution would be to create a Linked Server between the two databases?

If anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears!

Firstly I would suggest that you have a look at the onyatech reports module its costs a couple of dollars but is very functional.

http://www.onyaktech.com/Products/tab...

But more importantly it lets you connect to connection sources other than the default dotnetnuke connection source.  This is needed to connect to a different connection like a mysql server - which needs a couple of more items,

Firstly, - your SERVER will need to have a mysql odbc connector install onto it - this set of pages talk about this in detail.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/e...

Once this is installed you then create a new connection string in your sites web.config something like this ( you will need to set the server, database, username.password values to point to the right mysql database.

<add name="mysqlConnection" connectionString="DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};SERVER=server;;DATABASE=database;UID=username;PWD=password; OPTION=3" />

In theory - from this point on the onyaktech reports module will be able to access you mysql database

Hi Westa,

Thanks for your reply and suggestions.

After I posted this thread last night, I actually started to investigate the possibility of using a Linked Server to pull the data from MySQL via SQL Server and this morning after an hour or two's work, I have it sorted!

It's easy once you know how!!! hahaha.

Thanks again mate.
