Please post any errors messages that you received during the attempted install and describe the problem in more detail. I just successfully installed the install package in DNN 5.04.02.

Also, please answer the following questions to help me verify and fix the problem:

  1. Did you upgrade the Feedback module over an install of an earlier version of the DNN Feedback module or was this a fresh install?
  2. Which package did you try to install - the DotNetNuke.Modules.Feedback_05.00.00_Beta_Install.zip or the DotNetNuke.Modules.Feedback_05.00.00_Beta_Source.zip?
  3. Did you download the package you installed from CodePlex AFTER May 26, 2010? On that date I refreshed both packages after fixing a missing {objectQualifier} token in the 05.00.00.SqlDataProvider script which would have prevented install on sites that do not use an objectQualifier of "DNN".
  4. Is your site running with an application pool for ASP.Net 3.5 SP 1 or ASP.Net 4.0?

I installed this module on my portal, and It looks to have all the features I have been looking for.  I have one problem though.  The form itself renders allot larger than the old.  Mostly due to the margin, and the fact that the field name, and field value seem to be on the same row.  The old module had the title, and data entry field on seperate rows.  Which would fit in a side panel.  The new module seems to need a content panel, or an entire page to itself.

Please help.

David, thanks for checking out Feedback 5.0.0. I can see that the new form width would be a problem when placed in a side panel. Although the width of the fields can be reduced significantly in the module settings and the borders removed, margins narrowed by changes to the module.css stylesheet, I can't think of a good way to restore the old layout of having the field labels on one row and the field itself on a second row. Because the DNN label user control always inserts an html break after the label text, I had to move the label and field to separate table cells to achieve my preferred layout of having the label and field on the same row. I knew that I should have made the form templatable - and will consider doing so for the next version.

You best approach to customizing the form layout beyond simple css changes would be to modify Feedback.ascx to move both the DNN label control and the field input control (textbox or drop down list) into the same table cell on each row. Keep in mind, however, that any changes you make to Feedback.ascx will be overwritten when the module is later upgraded.

David --

Regarding the use of Feedback 05.00.00 in a narrow pane . . .

Since I had to correct a couple of other issues prior to re-submission of the module to the DNN Release Tracker testing, I decided to convert the Feedback form to a completely tableless form that is much more customizable via modifications to the module.css style sheet. I also added a new option to the module settings to allow placement of the form field labels either above (like the old Feedback module) or to the left of the form input fields.

If you have a chance, please give Feedback 05.00.01 RC a test. This is the same version being re-submitted to the Release Tracker today.
