Opening office documents on local intranet prompts for login credentials

For some reason any user that I have gets prompted for a log in when they open any office documents our local intranet site. If they click cancel it works and document opens, but if they enter their log in it keeps prompting. So clicking cancel is the alternative currently.
Any guidance is appreciated, thank you!
Notes:
1. The site is in the local intranet zone and not in trusted sites
2. If the user goes to the site, they are automatically logged in as the setting is set to "automatically log on with current username and password"
3. We are using Office 2010 STD
4. IE 8
*For some reason if I use Office Pro 2013 it works perfect, but not on office 2010 STD
