We are currently shipping several dozen modules which are used solely to identify the tab that the module is located on.

 I would like to replace these with several settings on the tab if I can. Is there a way to do this such that the tab would import and export correctly still?

We control which version of DNN is used by our clients, so I can make changes to DNN itself, however I would prefer to not do so as it makes updating more difficult.
