Essentially yes. I know that more sophisticated site users with access could download the MP3 when they are logged in and then distribute outside of my site but that would be them being unethical on multiple levels. I want to prevent them from finding the direct URL to the files and distributing that to the public.

That's what I thought.  Then why aren't you already using secure folders?  I'd suggest the Secure - File System folder type for this purpose.

Okay.  I just moved them over to secure folders.  Note, I own the server & only trusted associates have access to it... but I moved it over anyway.  Thanks.

Well, trusting your internal personnel is only part of the use of that feature.  It also has the added benefit of obscuring the URL and file location, as you intend.
