Wow.  That's encouraging.

In my case, I am using Media Module 3.3.0 as well and I am trying to stream an MP3 file.  I just reset the folder permissions to remove access to "All" but included "Registered Users".  I am logged in as a registered user.

On my end, I see the media control as viewable with the "Ready" status and the play button enabled but the MP3 file doesn't stream.  The "Ready" status changes briefly to "Opening media..." but then changes back to "Ready" without any streaming of the file.  When I change the folder permissions back to "All", it works perfectly (but the files are open to unregistered users).

I want to thank you for walking through this with me.  Could I have you take it one step further and use an MP3 file and let me know if it streams properly for you?

Thanks,

Art

Hmmm...  I just tried this with an MP3 file.  I found that if I chose to autostart the media, the music played - otherwise it didn't.  But I don't think this will be true all of the time, depending on the default MP3 player that is handling the playing of the file in your web browser and the browser itself.  This definitely requires a lot more troubleshooting.

One more thing...  Since you're trying to secure the playing of this content, can you workaround this right now using the page/module permissions?

I do secure the page and module currently.  My concern is that a registered user with proper permissions can simply right-click on the media folder, select "properties" which would reveal a direct URL that could be shared with non-site users.  I need to be able to keep within my licensing agreement with the entity that provided the mp3 files to me which means that I really need to close this loop.

Thanks for your help with this.
