I just spent the better part of the evening trying to discover why a TextEditor control (FCK Editor) that had been working fine on a module settings page in DNN versions prior to 4.07.00 no longer would return modified html in DNN version 4.08.00. I had seen threads in the forums and Gemini relating to problems with the TextEditor in an AJAX UpdatePanel but did not realize at first that the entire ModuleSettings control (including our specific settings.ascx controls)  is now automatically getting wrapped in an AJAX UpdatePanel if AJAX support has been enabled in Host Settings. This change caused my module settings page to break and I suspect the same for many other developers.  I have since noted that the issue has been logged in Gemini but is still awaiting a fix - either in wrapping the ModuleSettings control with an UpdatePanel or in the FCK Editor provider.

Since my use of the TextEditor control used its own submit button to update the underlying data store, I was able to work around this by registering the submit button to use regular postbacks:

'In your Settings.ascx.vb - Page_Init but should also work in LoadSettings()
If Framework.AJAX.IsInstalled Then
     Framework.AJAX.RegisterPostBackControl(cmdTextEditorSubmit)
End If

But, what if you don't have your own submit button for submitting changed text from the TextEditor control and are doing so in the overridden UpdateSettings method following a click of the ModuleSettings control's Update link button? The following seems to be a good workaround until a core solution is released:

'In your Settings.ascx.vb - Page_Init but should also work in LoadSettings()
If Framework.AJAX.IsInstalled Then
     Dim cmdUpdate As Control = Me.Parent.TemplateControl.FindControl("cmdUpdate")
     If Not cmdUpdate Is Nothing Then  Framework.AJAX.RegisterPostBackControl(cmdUpdate)
End If

This is a great post!

I just dealt with this "issue" in a few of my modules...

So how about the edit profile area?  Looks like they wrapped it in the UpdatePanel as well because now we can't save any fields with the texteditor control under the dit profile area.  Gotta love it!

Here is translation to C#. Great workaround. Thank you very mutch William.

if (DotNetNuke.Framework.AJAX.IsInstalled())
{
Control cmdUpdate = Parent.TemplateControl.FindControl("cmdUpdate");
if (cmdUpdate != null) DotNetNuke.Framework.AJAX.RegisterPostBackControl(cmdUpdate);
