We really like the new search in DNN722 (Lucene) but unfortunately we get a lot of complains about the layout and look & feel of the searchresults and the searchbox. We just want a simple result interface, no grouping etc...
We tried to solve this by changing the templates and css but there's not really a template you can use.
You have to do all the customization in the ascx, css and js files.
This is not what we prefere because when you upgrade you lose these changes.
I found this very useful article:
Of course you can do a lot with CSS, JS etc. but this is not the best practice.
DNN is multiportal so you can have a lot different sites with different designs and layout specifications in one DNN instance.
90% of all third party modules meet this needs by providing templates html/xslt
To make DNN a real multiportal CMS all functionality and core modules should based on Templates, CSS and Tokens.
Ventrian Newsarticles is a good example of this principle. We use this module for 10 years now a we always managed to meet the requirements of the customer, because of the flexibility based on Templates, CSS and Tokens.
The need for templates and flexibility is essential when you want to build good responsive websites.
So there's no time to waste.... Get rid of the tables and make flexible responsive templates....
