Hi

I've built a scheduled task which I will need to roll out to several sites.  It's a pain to do manually so I wondered if anyone knows if it's possible to package up a scheduled job into a zip file and install it like a module?  I've used 3rd party modules that seem to be able to create scheduled tasks when you install them. Does anyone know how this is done?

Gus,

not in a package afaik. What you can do (or what I did) was to write some code in the IUpgradeable interface to define it, something like this:

public string UpgradeModule(string version)
{
   ...
   if (version == "x.y.z")
   {
      try
      {
         ScheduleItem si = SchedulingProvider.Instance().GetSchedule("some.class.name, module_FriendlyName", string.Empty);
         if (si == null)
         {
            si = new ScheduleItem();
            si.CatchUpEnabled = false;
            si.Enabled = true;
            si.NextStart = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(4);
            si.RetainHistoryNum = 100;
            si.RetryTimeLapse = 5;
            si.RetryTimeLapseMeasurement = "m";
            si.ScheduleSource = ScheduleSource.NOT_SET;
            si.TimeLapse = 7;
            si.TimeLapseMeasurement = "d";
            si.TypeFullName = "some.class.name";
            si.FriendlyName = "Short description of what the task is dong";
            SchedulingProvider.Instance().AddSchedule(si);
         }
      }
      catch (Exception ex)
      {
         Exceptions.LogException(ex);
      }
   }
   ...
}

Hope that helps.

Happy DNNing!
