Hi, we have set up a DNN instance on Amazon EC2 with an elastic IP and have successfully bulit a number of portals. We are now trying to set up smtp email but we are struggling to get it to work,.

We set up SES with verified email address and even registered a domain. We can send a test from SES but cannot figure out how get DNN emails working:

Do any of you gurus have knowledge of this.

which is the issue you are facing, are you using email settings in Host or Site settings?

I think this is the problem,  what do we put in the smtp settings in host?.  We do not have a domain name on the AWS server as such just an elastic IP address and we use IIS bindings for our portal alias's.

We have tried entering options from the SES credentials we created but none seem to work.

you need an address (domain name or IP address) for the mail server - which needs to be entered in DNN as well as the account name and password.

Hi,

I use that same setup and it works well for me. Here is an example of my settings:

In DNN Host Settings> Advanced> SMTP Settings

SMTP server and port: email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com:587 (yours may be different)
SMTP Authenticaiton: Basic
SSL: Yes
Username:
(from your SES credentials)
Password: (from your SES credentials)

In AWS> SES Management Console

Make sure you have taken necessary domain verification steps and/or sender emails.
Your server name is under SMTP Settings.

Hope this helps you!
