I would like to set some custom errors for typical web browser errors like :
error 400
error 401
error 403
error 404
error 500

in host settings >> appearance >> I have checked the box for
"Use Custom Error Messages "

in web.config I have the following:

but when I bring up an erroneous page it does not show our customised 404 page and instead brings up the standard '404 - File or directory not found.' error message.

have I done this wrong?

I am using the latest DNN 7.4.2

apologies, my error code did not paste, here it is:

< customErrors mode="On" >
< error statusCode="400" redirect="/error400" / >
< error statusCode="401" redirect="/error401" / >
< error statusCode="403" redirect="/error403" / >
< error statusCode="404" redirect="/error404" / >
< error statusCode="500" redirect="/error500" / >
< / customErrors >

and I have created the above pages on our server at www.oursite/error400 etc
