I have been trying to display profile properties of users, but the token just generates asterisks like shown: ******

I am thinking maybe these profile properties are encrypted or hashed, does anyone know how I can switch these to plain text?

I figured it out, the custom profile properties had a default visiblity set to admin

I fixed it by going to Admin -> Site Settings -> User Account Settings -> Profile Settings

I chose from the dropdown for Default visibility mode to Members Only

Then I went to the individual properties and set each one to Members Only visibility

Now the tokens work and display these profile properties in emails!

you are right, asterisks are displayed, if the viewing user is not permitted to see the viewed user's data.

Is there a way to expose profile properties to unauthenticated users so they don't see asterisks? I want public users see profile properties that are set to public.

4fingers style helpers should be able to suppress the asterisks
