I am upgrading a site to DNN 7 that has about 400 pages and about 4 modules per page. The previous skin isn't available in DNN 7 version. So I am struggling to find a programmatic way to get the content back into the arrangement it was in prior to changing to a new skin. I was considering changing the new skin panes to be named like the old skin panes but there isn't really a 1 to 1 correlation in pane structure. Then I considered the reverse by changing the panename for tabmodules in the database, but that doesn't seem to work well either. Has anyone done this before who might have some good ideas? Honestly moving content around in DNN 7 seems easy on the surface but I have found that it really is hard to determine where content is in layout mode. And since I host the site but didn't develop the content I don't know exactly where the content even goes. I am just trying to save my customer some time from having to rearrange all the content on the site, which is considerable.

I fear, you will have to update all moduleOrder to follow strictly the numbering 1,3,5... per tabId and paneName:
next, you'll need an algorithm, to update panename and moduleorder properly, matching it to the new panes, e.g. all items with panename "ContentPane" and ModuleOrder > 5 get "ContentPaneRight" and ModuleOrder -= 6.

Maybe less work to hack the old skin to work with DNN7

I kinda feel that if the customer chose to use a new skin that wasn't compatible with his existing content - I might feel that it was the customer's problem to fix it.

I have done things like this with SQL.
Takes some planning, but it works.
Remember you have to restart DNN for the changes to show up.

Hacking the new skin will lead to more problems IMO.

For instance you could not install an upgrade of the skin any more.
