Having an issue with MSSQL 2008 Express. I have a server with several dotnetnuke websites already installed and working with no issues connecting to the database. But now out of the blue when I try to install a new website with the same instance I can not connect to the data base. I also tried to move a dnn site to this server and it will not connect to the instance. Not sure were to start to resolve the issue.  I can create the database and user and have no issues connecting to the database using MyLittle admin so I don't think its an mssql issue.

How does your connection string look like - are you using attached or user instance databases?
In the 2nd case, did you create proper sql server login and grant dbowner access to your database?
in the first case, did you make sure the database is not attached the same time?

User Instance.

Yes I created user and they are dbowner of the database role membership

in the first case, did you make sure the database is not attached the same time? Not sure what you mean here but if your referring to the other dotnetnuke websites. each website has there own database and user account.

if you are using user instance database (i.e. "User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" as part of your connection strings), you don't need a server login. Make sure that the database is NOT attached to SQL server from inside SQL Server management studio, otherwise access via user instance is blocked.

  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express -->

    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=WSPSRV1\SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=portage_dnn;User ID=portageadmin;Password=XXXXXXXXXXX" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

The above is a connection string from a working website on the server.

The website I am trying to install would be "Data Source=WSPSRV1\SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=coblentz_dnn;User ID=coblentz;Password=XXXXXXXX" but I get no connection.
