We are using DNN for our corporate intranet. There is minimal skinning going on and only about 50 users (thought I suspect only 25-30% are online at at any time).

The site displays mainly static content with a couple of user forums.

Platform was originally on a dedicated HP Proliant ML110 server (4 core Xeon, 16GB), Window Server 2008 standard, with nothing else running on it. On that platform performance was pretty slow with some pages taking seconds to load. But looking at the server it's clearly not loaded. We are using SQL Server Express but it could use SQL Server 2008R2 SE since I do have a few SQL servers I could connect to.

Seeing that the host was pretty unutilised and suspecting CPU/memory was not an issue with the DNN I virtualised the DNN installation by creating a VM Ware image of the server, installing VM Ware on the hardware and installing the VM Ware image on the box. I left the resources at 16GB and 4 cores.

Not surprisingly it still performs like a slug.

I have some basic IIS tuning but that hasn't helped.

It must be some DNN configurations but I really don't know where to look and our DNN developers don't either. They are more into site design rather than DNN tuning.

Can anybody give me some ideas where to look or point the developers to?  I would even be prepared to have somebody in the community remotely logon to take a look if that helped.

Thanks

Which DNN version are you using?
Check the number of items in EventLog and ScheduleHistory.
Check active jobs in DNN scheduler and its frequency.
Check database and transaction log size, you might need to reorganize indexes of the larger tables.
