Need a little expert advice here please.  I'm using DNN 6.02, and for some reason I can't get the SMTP test to authenticate a gmail address.  I've tried with a couple gmail accounts and 1 works fine, but my client's gmail account will not.  I've tried all settings and port numbers.  I get the same event error each time.

The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated.

If anyone can shed some light on this, I would very much appreciate it!

is it perhaps a google for domains account - there are differences between the settings, the wiki has links to the 2 different configurations http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/...

Thanks, but I've tried both options and still get the error.

There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent.

So after 3 days of troubleshooting, I finally figured it out.

If some has activated 2-step verification in their Google Security Settings, they must generate a Application Specific Password.

Apply this password to the smtp settings in DNN, and presto!

I hope this thread will save someone hours of grief!
