Which open source module uses newer DNN APIs and DAL2? I would like to look at best practices for module development from a well designed modern DNN module.

the best resource for service framework is the platform itself, we extensively use it (typically binding to knockoutjs). As for DAL2, we use much less (just the sql module AFAIR). There's a decent page at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... which covers most topics, and I like the blog post Torsten (a DNN MVP) did at http://www.bitboxx.net/Blog/Post/190 which shows converting an "old" style module over.

Off the top of my head dnnchat is the one that leaps to mind that uses both - https://github.com/ChrisHammond/dnnCHAT -you probably know this already but the developer, Chris Hammond, also creates the popular templates for dnn and added a few DAL2 ones http://www.chrishammond.com/blog/item... . Note: there's also MVP based DAL2 templates @ https://dnnmvptemplate.codeplex.com/ which are worth a look.

Finally, http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... has lots of links to projects that did social integration (there are now too many to keep the list up to date, but the free ones with source code should help you out)

The MVP template doesn't install in VS 2013. I checked the manifest file and I noticed two odd issues

<InstallationTarget Version="[10.0,12.0)" Id="Microsoft.VisualStudio.Ultimate" />

It includes version 12 which is VS 2013 but the template was released before VS 2013 came out and the closing brace is supposed to a square bracket. I changed it and repackaged it but it gave an error during  installation. Maybe VS 2013 has a different format.

Anyways I contacted the author and I'll wait.

I just released a rewrite of my CodePlex/Forge project ePrayer which now makes extensive use of DNN 7 form patterns, Knockout JS, DNN WebAPI web services (v 7.x) and integrates with core notifications and social groups. Unfortunately it does not make use of DAL2. You can download the source package from http://eprayer.codeplex.com/releases . I have not yet had time to update the source repository which is still on the prior version.
