Hi, I'm running DNN 7.1.2 and getting this error when trying to look at the Log Viewer. Any ideas? :

typically that means your eventlog is too large to return data before the sql connection times out. Typically you will resolve this by manually deleting old entries  directly from the database table or else by running sql such as this via host->sql

/****** Script will delete entries older than 1 day ******/

delete FROM [EventLog] where [LogCreateDate]<DATEADD(DAY, DATEDIFF(DAY, 0, GETDATE()), -1)

Alternatively you can clear down the entire table by truncate e.g.

issue may also be caused by an exceedingly large log file for the database, please check file size options for the database and perform a backup with truncate log or shrink files, If necessary.

Thanks both of you.

I understand Cathal's solution and am ready to do this.

Sebastian, do you think Cathal's solution will be sufficient? Or is there more I need to understand here?

Thanks very much

My suggestion would be to try Cathal's suggestion first, and if its still a problem then do Sebastian's, but Cathal's should be enough to fix it.
