it seems like our site runs on 1 thread or something.
I am sure nothing has been changed since we installed server.

if I am running an import script then everyone waits until it is done to get their page. also when the search scheduler kicks off we get the same thing. the site freezes up to almost zero movement until this job is done.

in IIS we are set for multithreading. any ideas on what settings may be causeing this?

what do you mean by you are set for multithreading -if you mean multiple worker processes then this will not work as DNN does not support webgardens, or more accurately asp.net does not support synchronising cache/session etc over separate threads in a webgarden (http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/Page/Webgardens) . Note: running with a single worker process is fine as multiple threads will run within that, so multiple simultanteous requests will work fine (AFAIR IIS has a default connection limit of 10,000 connections)

sorry not meaning webgarden or anything. just normal dnn server running. as I said it seems to only run 1 process at a time instead of multiple. so any long running script locks up the site until it is done running.

again, it seems like our setup is running 1 command at a time. everytime I run a long running script it locks up the website for everyone.
I read something about session lock? is this the direction I need to look?

what do you mean by "long running script"? If you are attempting to run a sql script against a database directly, and that script does updates, a possibility of lock escalation exists i.e. other queries that want to access that table have to wait for the script to complete (i.e. the table is guaranteed to be ACID in database terms). If you mean a single page request, then the issue is elsewhere, and I would not imagine in DNN -as we simply sit on top of asp.net.
