All portals in our installation of DNN 4.5.5 get the following error message when trying to see the Event Viewer page under the Admin menu, whether logged in as Host or Admin. We have truncated the EventLog table, and it is still logging events, so corrupted table/entries do not seem to be the problem.

Error: Event Viewer is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: Index ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: Index at Microsoft.VisualBasic.Collection.FastList.get_Item(Int32 Index) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.Collection.get_Item(Int32 Index) at DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.DBLoggingProvider.DBLoggingProvider.PurgeLogBuffer() at DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.LogController.PurgeLogBuffer() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Log.LogViewer.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

There does not seem to be any help on this issue that we can find. Can anyone shed some light on a possible fix? Thank you!

clear old entries in the event log by executing the following script inside Host :: SQL menu item:

truncate table {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}Eventlog

Sebastian,

Thanks for this quick fix. Do you know what causes the error. As I keep getting this error and there are only 10 records in my eventlog table? The event log used to show over 150 events and  now I can see more than a few without getting the error.

thanks
Simon

I am using 4.5.5 as well and have same problem. I tried without succes:

truncate table dbo.V4A_DNN_EventLog
truncate table V4A_DNN_ScheduleHistory

I had to restart the application to resolve this (via the Restart Application link on the Host->Host Settings page).

Log entries are buffered in memory in DBLoggingProvider.LogQueue (a Public Shared Collection). PurgeLogBuffer loops through the collection writing the entries to the database. I can't figure out what's going wrong in there, but restarting the application resets the LogQueue collection and fixes the problem. I can't find another way of resetting that collection. Probably should be Try..Catch in PurgeLogBuffer that does that....
