A brief introduction

I wanted to take the time to briefly introduce myself to the DotNetNuke community. My name is Alec Whittington and I have recently been appointed the Project Lead for the Links module. Now I must admit, when I first heard of DNN, it was via a customer who was ironically having trouble getting it to work in our shared environment (I work for CrystalTech Web Hosting). After posting in the forums at ASP.NET, well posting is a rather nice way of saying criticizing the DNN team for releasing a product that did not seem easy to use or install and with lack of good documentation. To say the least, I was chastised back and told to put up or shut up. You can guess which way I chose to go.

This post lead me to create the DNN 2.X installation guide to provide our customers and the DNN community a thorough step-by-step walk thru of installing 2.X versions. With the introduction of 3.X, the guide was not really necessary as the documentation was stepped up significantly. I now use DNN exclusively for all client projects (unless it does not call for it specifically or when a client requests not to use it). This has led me to learning how to develop custom modules for customers as well as submitting features for other persons modules.

It is truly my pleasure to be associated with DotNetNuke and it's community of users and developers. I hope that I can bring some guidence to the Links module and get the project jump started. I will post shortly on the links blog about the game plan for the future of the module.
