Carbon Silicon

Well this is not dotnetnuke related, but hey, I fancy a break from gemini :).

Over January/February I got myself into something that became a bit of a ritual on Friday nights.

I live very near West London’s Portobello road in the UK. Whilst some of you might think that area is famous for that awful Hugh Grant film, well I regard our area as being famous as being the centre of rock music in London, well historically at least. As a kid my favourite local bands were The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite (BAD). Unfortunately I never had the fortune to see them; however I often saw and met Mick Jones, and the rest of the band kicking around Portobello.

Well I found out through the grapevine that Mick Jones (of the bands I've just mentioned) and Tony James (Generation X, Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Sisters of Mercy (a band I worked for in my old sound engineering days)) had started a band called Carbon Silicon.

So every Friday for six weeks we handed over a ten pound note, gained entry to the Carbon Casino (which was actually a tiny venue called in Inn on the Green) and finally got in to hear the band. What was truly special was that we saw, heard and talked to a lot of other musicians who just turned up for the heck of it: Topper (ex Clash) drummed with Mick for the first time in 25 years. We had most of the Sex Pistols do a few numbers; we had Pete Wylie and even the Manic Street Preachers getting up on stage. To top it all off the Alabama 3 came up and performed their hit "Woke up this morning", I'm sure many of you know this song from the hit TV series "the Sopranos". Boy did I feel like a teenager again...

Most of the footage is available on youtube.

Anyway, why am I babbling on about this and not the .net framework? Well they are touring the US, and I consider I owe them a favour considering all the joy and pleasure they gave me (although I didn't thank them much for my hangover the next day)..... Not that they need the publicity from the worlds no.1 portal framework, they were on Conan O'Brien a few days ago, and not that they need the money either.

So if you fancy a laugh and you like your urban poetry/rock music, please go and see them! (I guess I should be paying for advertising space here :). Refreshingly the band don't generally charge a lot to see them play and have fun, I'm wondering if they are the world's first open source band?

Back to base now...

Those who have written in with offers to help out on Gemini.... many thanks, we have had many offers and we will be contacting you guys shortly (I hope), please bare with me and apologies for being pretty slow about this.
