I am trying to figure out the pros/cons to discuss with the Bobs of creating a site within my existing DNN installation versus creating a totally new site in IIS, new SQL DB, new folder structure and so on. A benefit i see right off the bat is the ability to recycle an apppool for the 2nd site without taking both of them down. I get the pros between IIS and taking the site down. I have the hardware resources available to create another site, another DB, NIC, etc. I don’t see any benefit to creating a parent site (portal) in my existing DNN Installation with a new URL other than creating a site group to do SSO, and that is not all that important to me.
